Compass Cow had the opportunity to visit Totten Glacier, sea ice locked islands Chick Island and Gillies Island, had a crack at flying the helicopter.
This photo was taken at 3.00 am in the morning……Antarctica land of the midnight sun!!.
Helicopters are the most efficient, safest way to ferry scientists from Casey station to deep field for scientific research, they are utilised during the summer months here for a period of about two months. As you can imagine all travel is weather dependent (I must admit I’m getting a wee bit jealous of jaunts and escapades Compass cow is involved in).
Special thanks to David Lomas for being Compass cows chaperone on this journey.
